Equipment List

AMGA certified guides will be carrying a first aid kit, navigation equipment, inReach satellite device, repair kit, and survival supplies.

Sun Valley Guides Provide:

  • Maps, compasses, and a free trial for CalTopo mapping app

  • Tents, backpacking stoves, sleeping bags

  • Food for the entire week

What you need:

  • 1-2 liters of water (hydration bladders work well)

  • Rain jacket

  • Insulated jacket or puffy coat

  • Warm mid-layer(s)

  • Lightweight pants (cotton, jeans, or sweatpants not recommended)

  • Breathable t-shirt for warmer weather and/or a sun hoodie (recommended for cool or cloudy days)

  • Lightweight gloves (weather dependent)

  • Beanie or lightweight wool hat

  • Running shoes or light-duty hiking boots

  • 2-3 pairs of wool hiking socks (Smartwool socks)

  • 2 pairs of underwear

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, bug spray, and a brimmed hat

  • Toiletry kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, personal medication, etc.)

  • Camp shoe (lightweight sandals or crocs)

  • Day pack (~60 liters) that is big enough to carry all the above items

  • Sleeping pad (bring a patch kit if inflatable)

  • Sleeping bag (~30*F rated - SVG has some for rent)

  • Plastic bowl and spork for eating meals (Tupperware works!)
